If you’re not a fan of pools you’re in luck- UNICO 20˚87˚ is also situated on a magnificent white sand beach. The sprawling pool was fully equipped with swim up bars, pool toys, live music, and comfortable chairs to lounge in and catch those Mexican rays. Immediately after settling into my room I made a quick change into my bathing suit and headed down to the lively pool to explore. One thing all of these amazing rooms have regardless of having tub or pool is a spectacular ocean view. Each room has either a balcony with a large outdoor hydro spa tub or a semi-private swim up pool if you are on the ground floor. This incredible hotel boasts 448 lavishly appointment rooms fully equipped for ultimate luxury. However, there are exceptions to this and meet the #1 exception ever Unico 20° 87°. For the more discerning traveler this means all-inclusive is usually a no-go. Less than impressive cuisine, cheap alcohol, and poor service are what you’ll typically find. Since the beginning, ‘all-inclusive’ resorts and hotels have had a negative view and for the most part- rightfully so. I knew from this very moment I was in a special place. I was told to sit down, enjoy a delicious cold glass of juice, pick an aromatherapy scent of my choice for my room, and relax in a seat as they checked me. Beautiful lanterns dangling high from the white washed vaulted ceilings, crisp white walls with dark wood floors, and a dark pintuck leather seating areas to swoon over immediately greeted me. The Mayan ruins in the area were closed to visitors during our stay, however our guide was able to give us an up close view from the snorkeling boat.As I walked through the doors flaked with smiling bellman and into the lobby of UNICO 20˚87˚ Hotel Riviera Maya I was immediately engulfed in impeccable design. ![]() We were able to enjoy the beach and comfortable lounge chairs and daybeds after lunch. Everyone enjoyed the food and the open air, modern restaurant. The excursion included exploring the Minotauro cenote, shopping in Tulum, and ended with lunch at a beautiful local beach club and snorkeling in Tulum. Our temperature was taken before leaving and we were given a pack with sunscreen, bug spray, after sun cream and a sanitizing wipe. We had 4 in our family and 8 on the whole tour. It was not a part of the inclusions, but was a semi private tour. Instead guests spent their evenings in the open lobby bar where the hotel had a DJ set up for the guests to enjoy. Palmera Lounge, which usually has live entertainment in the evenings and a cigar bar, was closed due to Covid 19 regulations. This service was completely custom and complimentary. Twice a week an artist came on property, poolside to hand paint sun hats provided to guests by the hotel. This is also the location of the water aerobics and aqua spinning lead by an instructor daily. Every morning the chairs, cabanas and daybeds were sanitized before guests arrived at the pools. ![]() The hand-crafted cocktails were delicious with plenty of varieties from which to choose.ĭuring the day, guests can enjoy food and beverages while lounging by one of the 3 pools. We were pleasantly surprised by the top shelf liquors that were part of the all-inclusive package. They were full every night we were there. I recommend making reservations ahead of time for the hibachi if you have a shorter stay. The Asian restaurant, Mura House, was one of our favorites with fresh sushi and 2 hibachi tables. Each venue offered moderate portions and a wide selection of options. I am happy to report that the food exceeded our expectations. On-site there are 4 restaurants and a cafe. With that in mind, I recommend the oceanfront or suites on the higher floors for clients looking for privacy and ocean views from their balcony. The ocean view rooms overlook the pools and resort with the ocean in the background. The resort provided hand sanitizer, masks and a sanitizing wipe in our room. We stayed in the ocean front rooms that have unobstructed views of the ocean with about 500 ft. The swim up rooms lined the walking paths around the property, with pool loungers and a hammock chair, great for more social guests. Every room, excluding the swim up category, has a soaking tub and couch on the balcony. The rooms are sleek with modern design elements and include a butler. The resort has 448 rooms, but was not operating at full capacity. We were then escorted to a sitting area in the beautiful lobby and given a welcome beverage to enjoy while checking in. When we arrived, our bags and shoes were sanitized and we had our temperatures taken. ![]()
